Tips on Energy Conservation

Consumption of energy in any form affects our environment, whether by air, land or water. Natural gas is one of the most clean-burning forms of energy. Natural gas appliances can conserve resources and reduce pollution over its energy counterparts. Natural gas emits at least 30% less carbon dioxide than coal. Natural gas also emits less ground-level ozone than oil or coal. Wood-burning fireplaces create air pollution that can be significantly reduced by switching to a gas fireplace.

  • Inspect and clean or replace air filters on a monthly basis.
  • Properly ventilate your gas appliances.
  • Check your chimney and other vents for nests and blockages before using the gas appliance.
  • Caulk all windows and doors.
  • Insulate attic, outside doors, crawlspaces and under floors.
  • Fix leaking water faucets as small leaks can actually waste gallons of water.
  • Weather-strip doors and windows.
  • Keep your car well-tuned and manage your time wisely to prevent excess trips.
  • Carpool, walk or bike whenever possible.
  • Avoid drive-through windows or allowing your car to idle for a long period.
  • Mow your yard after 6:00 p.m.
